Today, April 22nd, is World Earth Day, and we want to highlight our commitment to producing environmentally-friendly products through sustainable business practices. This year’s theme for World Earth Day is “Our Power, Our Planet”, and we believe this ties into our own company goals of People, Product, Planet.
OCEANR is proud to have received its Certified B Corporation status in 2024, meaning that our company meets the highest standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency in areas such as employee benefits to supply chain practices.
Here at OCEANR, we know that protecting our planet for future generations requires more than recycling, so that’s why we ensure all of our employees at our production facility in Riga, Latvia are compensated with a living wage. As 2025’s theme is a celebration of “Our Power”, we know that our people are our power. We see it as OCEANR’s continued responsibility to empower our people with the means to create a sustainable future for themselves and their families, thereby ensuring the celebration of many World Earth Days to come.
This World Earth Day, we are choosing to highlight our people-first supply chain, prioritising the sustainable working conditions in our European-Union based production facility. We can proudly say that all of the employees at our Latvian centre for design, production, packaging and shipment, are all paid above the national minimum wage. By creating sustainable employment and encouraging equity, OCEANR is playing a role in creating a healthier environment and ecosystem for future generations.
In terms of “Our Planet”, we can also happily say that the majority of our clothing is made from recycled polyester and organic cotton, ensuring that we are doing our part to minimise waste in our production pipeline. OCEANR has successfully reclaimed over 1.5 million plastic bottles that otherwise would have ended up in landfill or our oceans. Converting plastic waste into wearable fabrics begins with the plastic being cleaned and sorted before being shredded into pellets. The pellets are then melted into fibres, which are subsequently processed into wearable fabrics to be used in our EU production facility within which there are fair working conditions, resulting in a sustainable production cycle that benefits people as well as the planet.
2025 marks 55 years since World Earth Day was first held in the United States, having since evolved into an internationally recognised event celebrated by millions of people. At OCEANR, we recognise the importance of sustainability every day by ensuring that our custom apparel is produced from consumer plastic waste such as plastic bottles, reducing the need for new resources and preventing plastic from entering our eco-system.
